THE GLOBE & MAIL: WELL WRITTEN/POORLY READ

Today’s rampage comes thanks to two very obtuse Globe & Mail readers who responded to a comment I made about the picture posted with the story of US President Barrack Obama’s visit to Ottawa today.

The pic will be included but what caught me immediately was that the photographer had focused on Obama even though Harper was in the foreground and speaking. It’s a very well taken shot. It also sparked the following comment by me on that story’s COMMENTS page. I know, that was MY first mistake.

AS POSTED:

Simon Proxy, from Canada wrote: I love the pic on the globe homepage for this story as i write this. It's a close up showing Obama, sharply in focus, looking at an out of focus Harper while he stands in the foreground speaking.

It captures my exact feelings about these two leaders. One (Obama) had a clear vision and is focused, the other (Harper) is a large unfocused head with no vision except saving his own neck.

A FEW MINUTES LATER ONE OF THE GLOBE’S MORE OBTUSE POSTERS WROTE:

Paul Byer from Canada quotes: Simon Proxy from Canada writes: I love the pic on the globe homepage for this story as i write this.

Your kids obviously take the family photos if you need an explanation.

NOT ONLY DOES THAT NOT MAKE ANY SENSE IT DID MORE TO INSULT THE RESPONDER THAN ME. BUT THEN…

martha stewart from Canada quotes:

Simon Proxy writes: "I love the pic... It captures my exact feelings about these two leaders. One (Obama) had a clear vision and is focused, the other (Harper) is a large unfocused head with no vision except saving his own neck."

AND ADDED: But the newspaper photographer did that.

REALLY MARTHA? IS THAT HOW PICTURES GET INTO NEWSPAPERS? WELL, DUH!! AND YEAH, I GET THE FRAMING AND FOCAL LENGTH WERE DONE BY THE GLOBE PHOTOG. DO I REALLY HAVE TO EXPLAIN "This picture exactly captures my feelings" TO PEOPLE?

LOOK, I HAD TO SAY SOMETHING. THESE TWO IDIOTS ASKED FOR IT BY POSTING SUCH ASSINE STATEMENTS, SO…

Simon Proxy, from Canada wrote: as a longtime reader of the Globe comments i know that many posters here seem to have an inability to comprehend wit, satire, irony, parody and cheek when reading my posts so I'll refrain from adding a figurative slap on the sides of their respective heads for completely missing my point above but i would seriously recommend both put their analysts on danger pay!
